Welcome to Charles Church Christian Life Center

We are more than just a community at Charles Church Christian Life Center. Our family has stood the test of time, sharing love and God's Word with a hurting world.

Whether you are new to our church or have been with us for years, we invite you to explore our story. Our origin is rooted in a deep love for God and a passion to make a difference in our community.

As you navigate through our website, could you take a moment to get to know our team? These incredible individuals are the heart and soul of our church, working tirelessly to ensure that everyone who walks through our doors feel welcome and loved.

Evans Powell, Pastor

He was born in Williamsburg, VA, and has lived in a fifty-mile radius of the city his entire life. As noted in Mary Beth’s biographical sketch, his life is linked to hers. He has been an employee of Newport News Shipbuilding since 1982 (with current plans to retire in 2028).

He has served as a deacon, associate pastor, and presently as a pastor at the church. He spent three years at the CMM College of Theology to help develop his ministry gifts. He has a gift of teaching the Word of God and now believes it is time to share that gift with others to help them become equipped to fulfill their God-given destiny.

We are also joined with the local All For Jesus Ministerial Group and support events (e.g., National Day of Prayer on the Peninsula) with our fellow church leaders and their congregations.

Mary Beth Powell, Pastor

She was born in Newport News, VA, and lived there until she was 14, when her family moved to Yorktown. She was married to Evans in 1987, and they reside in Yorktown today. Together, they have three beautiful children and three beautiful grandchildren.

Sensing the need to pursue further training to develop her ministry gifts, she spent six years with CMM College of Theology and one year attending the School of the Prophets at Morningstar University. She is a realtor at Abbitt Realty, where she works out of the Williamsburg office.

She co-pastors with her husband Evans, and her prophetic gifts and experiences as a wife, mother, and grandmother help her give practical insight that can be edifying to others who are seeking God.
